How Therapy Works

At Radish we believe therapy can be helpful for anyone, at any age, in any stage. We believe this because we know healing happens in community with one another.

What can I expect?

Radish offers you a soft place to land. We are here to meet you exactly as you show up whether you are carrying grief, anxiety, overwhelm, or simply the need to be seen. There is nothing too big, too heavy, too scary to share. We are here for it all.Our work together will always begin with building trust and safety within our relationship. This will go at whatever pace feels best for you.

Your story, your pace, your goals set the direction of our work together.

Body Aware, Trauma-Informed

Because trauma lives in the body, so does healing. Our work often includes noticing body sensations, breath, and other somatic cues to help you reconnect with your inner experience. You’ll never be pushed to go somewhere you’re not ready to go—your body’s pace guides the process.

We use approaches like child-centered play therapy, mindfulness, embodiment, and somatic resourcing, all grounded in up-to-date research and trauma-informed care.

What Healing Might Look Like

Therapy and healing are not one-size-fits-all. Our person-centered approach honors the uniqueness that each of our clients brings to their work.

It often isn’t linear. It’s slow, sacred, and deeply personal.

In the early sessions, you may notice what it feels like to speak without being rushed, to be heard without judgment, to sit with silence and still be held in care.

As trust builds, you might begin to name things that once felt unspeakable. You may feel more connected to your body—more able to notice sensations, set boundaries, or recognize what safety feels like.

For some, healing means crying for the first time in years. For others, it means laughing freely again, playing, or reconnecting with joy. It can look like learning to breathe through anxiety, honoring anger without shame, or exploring relationships in a new way.

There’s no single path. Sometimes sessions feel light; other times they stir old wounds. We follow your pace, your cues, your wisdom—always checking in, always grounding in the here and now.

Eventually, you may encounter more steadiness as you navigate through your days—and you may relate to yourself with more compassion and trust.

What it will feel like in our space

You will find warm lighting (we don’t believe in those painful overhead lights, warm lamps only, please), comfy seats, and coffee, tea, or water always available for whatever mood you are in. You will also find endless fidget toys, river stones, and anything else available to help with busy hands while processing. We have ever-growing bookshelves and love to share with clients. You will also find art supplies for creative expression (for both kids and adults). For kids, they will find an intentionally designed playroom just for them to explore and express their emotions and inner experiences. Learn more about our play room on our play therapy page.

FAQ

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network practice, which means we don’t work directly with insurance companies.

We know this can feel like a barrier, and we wish the system made it easier. The truth is, we chose this path so that we can focus on you, not on diagnosis codes, session limits, or clinical labels that don’t capture the full story.

When therapy isn’t directed by insurance requirements, we get to move at your pace. We get to honor your process, not someone else’s checklist. That freedom matters — especially when healing is involved.

That said, many of our clients do get reimbursed for part of their session fees through their out-of-network insurance benefits. If you have a PPO plan, that might be available to you too.

To simplify the process, we’ve partnered with Mentaya — a service that helps you check your out-of-network benefits and even submit for reimbursement automatically, if you'd like. You can check your benefits in under a minute right here.

We also know finances can be a real part of this conversation. We offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on availability. We partner with an organization called Open Path in order to provide this option for clients who need it. If you’re curious about that process or want to see if we currently have an opening, reach out — we’d love to talk with you.

If we’re not the right financial fit at this time, we’ll do our best to help point you somewhere that might be.

Because care should be accessible. And you deserve to feel supported in finding it.

Where do I begin? (How do I schedule?)

Finding your way here was the hardest and often scariest part of this process. Now that you’re here, we will walk with you every step of the way.

  1. Initial Consultation:
At Radish, we offer free 15 minute virtual consultations to help determine if our practice is right for you and what you are looking for. You can schedule one right on our website or call us at 214.702.8160. If texting is more your jam, you can text Abbi at 214.702-8440 and Becca at 214.802.8254. You can also email hello@radishcounseling.com
  2. Book Your First Session:
You can use our website to book your first session directly. It will always be up to date with our availability. Once we confirm your appointment on our end, you’ll receive an email notifying you. You can also call or text us using the numbers above.
  3. Complete Paperwork:
Once you’ve scheduled an appointment, you’ll receive our intake paperwork through your Online Portal. This helps us to meet you exactly as you arrive in your first session and support you moving forward.
  4. Attend Your First Session:
If you’re meeting us virtually, you’ll be emailed and/or texted a video call link. If you’re using your phone, it can be helpful to download the Simple Practice client application. If you’re visiting us in person, when you arrive, you can park in the parking circle and proceed through the 1907 Breezeway and enter through the door on the left that says 1907 on it. Our office is the very first door on the left (suite 500) and says "Radish Counseling" on the window. Have a seat in the waiting area and have some coffee or tea while you wait for your counselor to come bring you back.
  5. Planning for Healing:
After your first few sessions, we will work alongside you to come up with a personalized plan outlining your therapeutic goals and how we will walk together towards them.

How often and how long does therapy last?

This question is so common and unfortunately there is no definitive answer. At Radish, we don’t set the pace - you do. We’ll check-in consistently about how things are going and you will always have the opportunity to increase, decrease, or stop your session altogether.

Some of our clients prefer to stay in therapy more long-term and treat it as a place to process, reflect and grow over time. Others prefer a shorter process, working on a specific goal and then concluding.

Our work together is collaborative and we want this to feel supportive, not overwhelming.

Do you see children? Or adults?

We see all ages, as young as 3 and all the way through end of life. We have specialized training in child-centered play therapy for ages 3 to 10 and a specialized play therapy room in our office for that modality. For adolescents, teens, and even adults we also offer activity therapy and expressive arts.

What do you specialize in?

While our work and training equips us to see most clients, we do have specialized training and interest in the following areas:

  • Perinatal Mental Health:
Abbi is in the process of completing her Certification in Perinatal Mental Health and is passionate about supporting people throughout their reproductive and parenting journey. Her own postpartum experience paired with her training makes her a wonderful support in this area.

  • Trauma and Nervous System Healing:
Both Abbi and Becca have completed training in somatic therapy and use it to help our clients explore and integrate past experiences. Becca is trained in EMDR and Abbi is working towards completing her EMDR training.

  • Play Therapy:
We both trained at the University of North Texas, the leader in the world for play therapy education. We are actively working to complete our Registered Play Therapist certifications.

  • Burnout, Grief, and Life Transitions:
We are passionate about supporting individuals navigating burnout and fatigue as well as grief and transitions as they arise throughout all aspects of life. Becca has specific interest in supporting individuals in caring professions through their compassion fatigue and work-related burnout.

Do you do telehealth/virtual?

While we prefer to sit with our clients in person, we understand that for some that may not be a possibility. We offer telehealth for our clients who do not have the capacity to attend sessions in person.

Play therapy and EMDR are only offered in-person.

When and how do I pay?

In order to make things as seamless as possible, we collect a payment method from you when you are completing your intake paperwork. We ask for a credit card on file to help simplify the logistics of therapy and protect the time and energy we’re holding for you.

Having a card on file means you don’t have to worry about payment each session—we’ll process it automatically according to the agreement we’ve made together. It also helps us maintain healthy boundaries around cancellations and no-shows, so we can offer consistent care to you and to others waiting for support.

We know money can feel vulnerable, and we’re always open to conversations about accessibility, financial stress, or changes in your needs. Our hope is that this system supports a smoother, more grounded experience for everyone. We accept all major credit cards and do accept HSA cards as well. You may pay with check or card as well, though we ask that you also have a card on file.

What if I need to cancel an appointment or reschedule?

We hold your session time just for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we ask for at least 24 hours’ notice so we can offer that time to someone else who may be waiting for care.

If a session is missed or cancelled within less than 24 hours, we may charge a $50 cancellation fee. We know that life can be unpredictable, and we’ll always hold space for conversation if something unexpected comes up. Our intent is not for this to be punitive—it’s part of how we honor our time together and care for our practice sustainably.

Where is your office?

Our office is located at 1907 Ascension Blvd., Suite 500, Arlington, TX 76006. When you arrive, you can park in the parking circle and proceed through the 1907 Breezeway and enter through the door on the left that says 1907 on it. Our office is the very first door on the left (suite 500) and says "Radish Counseling" on the window. Have a seat in the waiting area and have some coffee or tea while you wait for your counselor to come bring you back.

Where did the name Radish come from?

In 2022, we spent months trying to come up with a meaningful name for our practice. It turns out that nearly every name we loved was already scooped up by another practice. Abbi’s partner reminded her of an earlier dream of hers to open Radish Eatery. We quickly connected with the name and loved its playful spirit.

Later, one of our dear friends shared with us that radishes are actually companion vegetables. They are planted in the soil alongside other vegetables to help break up the soil around them to encourage growth. We could not have stumbled upon a more appropriate metaphor for how we view therapy - sitting right with you, helping you soften the soil of you and your life so that your roots may breathe, grow, and bloom from all of the goodness that is already within you.

What is your favorite dance move?

Abbi’s favorite dance move is anything that comes up in her body in the moment – the weirder the better. She also likes the shopping cart. 🙂

Becca is still coming into her own as a dancer so right now her go-to move is just jumping up and down so much she almost pees her pants.

Where acceptance meets empowerment.
